SANILAC COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Two women were injured in a vehicle accident on Tuesday in Sanilac County.

The accident happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Forester Road and Hunt Round in Bridgehampton Township.

Mikki Rich, 35, of Deckerville was driving a 2008 GMC Envoy west on Forester Road when she pulled off to the shoulder and attempted to make a U-turn, police said. Rich pulled into the path of a 2005 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Kimberly Pionk, 50, of Minden City.

Pionk was also traveling westbound on Forester Road.

The Dodge struck the driver’s door of the Envoy causing both vehicles to come to a rest, police said.

The Deckerville Fire Department had to use the Jaws of Life to free Rich from the vehicle. She was treated for minor injuries at the scene, police said.

Pionk was transported to Deckerville Hospital for injuries. Her condition is unknown at this time.

The accident remains under investigation and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, police said.

Rich was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and she had a minor child in the front seat of the vehicle, police said. There is no word on whether or not the child was injured.

Rich was cited for traffic violations.
