Northwood coach passes away after battle with cancer

MIDLAND, MI (WNEM) -

Northwood Head Football Coach and Associate Athletic Director Pat Riepma passed away Tuesday after a more than year-long battle with cancer.

Riepma was with the Northwood Athletic Department for more than 21 years. During that time he became the all-time leader in coaching victories for the university’s football team, winning 95 games in his 16-year coaching career. He was also a four-time GLIAC Coach of the Year and guided his team to the NCAA playoffs four times.

Riepma served as athletic director from 2000 to 2013 and was considered vital in improving Northwood’s athletic facilities.

According to Northwood University, funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday July 22 at Northwood University at Hantz Stadium. Visitation is scheduled from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday July 21 at the Smith-Miner Funeral Home and before the funeral on Wednesday July 22 from 10-11 a.m. 

In case of rain, the funeral will be moved inside the Hach Student Life Center.
