FLUSHING, MI (WNEM) -

A Red Hat Society celebration today gathered nearly 300 ladies from all over in Flushing.

“We enjoy having the ladies here,” said Janet MacWebb, the event chairwoman.

It’s the 10th annual Red Hat Day in Flushing. On the agenda: eating, shopping and, of course, socializing.

“Flushing is a very friendly town,” MacWebb said. “They support the people, they want the ladies here.”

Decorating the downtown area in red and purple, business owners are happy to have hundreds of ladies shopping and eating in Flushing.

Kathy Birchmeier owns Kathy’ Restaurant and Lounge.

“We really take pride in our town and the event and welcoming the ladies to Flushing,” Birchmeier said.

She said Red Hat Day is something business owners look forward to every year.

“When you see all the purple and red and businesses are bustling,” Birchmeier said.

Mayor Kevin Keane said it’s a great event for the city to host.

“[There are] hundreds of ladies bolstering our economy,” Keane said.

MacWebb said the day is all about having fun with close friends and meeting some new ones.
