Missing Marine tells TV station he plans to turn himself in

PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) -

A Detroit-area news outlet says a Marine who is the subject of a nationwide manhunt after threats were made to his estranged wife plans to turn himself in.

WXYZ-TV reports that 21-year-old Clenard Gee-Simmons says reports that he could be heading to Pontiac where his wife and her family live are "not accurate."

Authorities say his wife has filed for divorce and that Gee-Simmons fled Monday from a low-priority lockdown at North Carolina's Camp Lejeune.

WXYZ-TV says Gee-Simmons emailed and called the station Tuesday. He said he was "nowhere near Michigan" and was not armed.

Gee-Simmons said he left the base because of stress and other issues.

Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard told WXYZ-TV that Gee-Simmons could "turn himself in" and "put an end to this."
