A Mid-Michigan couple was arrested after police were called to their home.

The incident happened about 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday at a home on E. Lapeer Street in the village of Peck. That’s in Sanilac County.

Sanilac Central Dispatch received a call from a cell phone with screaming in the background and police tracked the phone to the home, police said.

Deputies from the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Department determined the 31-year-old male subject was accused of aggravated domestic assault that included strangulation against his wife while an infant child was at the residence, police said.

He was arrested and protective services responded to the scene.

Deputies attempted to take the infant into temporary custody and the mother became violent, police said.

They said she assault the arresting deputy and attempted to disarm them by trying to get the gun out of the holster. Instead, the woman removed the pepper spray, police said.

The deputies deployed their stun gun and caused the suspect to let loose of the pepper spray, police said.

The 30-year-old woman was taken into custody on multiple felony charges including disarming a police officer, resisting and obstructing, and child neglect.

The male suspect was transported to the Sanilac County Jail on felony charges of strangulation and aggravated domestic assault, police said.

Both suspects are being held without bond pending their arraignment and the incident is under investigation.
