Couple arrested after 911 call

A Mid-Michigan couple arrested after 9-1-1 dispatchers pick up a call with screaming in the background.

It happened July 21 at around 12:45 p.m. in Sanilac County.

Dispatchers got a call where they could hear screaming in the background but nothing else. Deputies were able to trace the call to a home on E. Lapeer Street in the Village of Peck.

When they arrived they found that a man in the home was accused of domestic assault, including trying to strangle his wife.

“This case is a reminder that this type of violent encounter can happen anywhere at any time. The situation could have had a tragic outcome and goes to show you how important having the right tools to do the job is, such as Tasers,” said Sanilac County Sheriff Biniecki.

That man was taken into custody. When deputies tried to take an infant that was in the home into temporary protective custody, the child’s 30-year-old mother became combative.

Deputies say she assaulted them, and tried to grab their gun. While she wasn’t able to get ahold of the weapon, she was able to grab their pepper spray.

That’s when assisting deputies used their Taser to subdue her and get the pepper spray back. The mother was jailed on multiple felony charges of disarming a police officer, resisting and obstructing and child neglect.

The 31-year-old man was jailed on felony charges of strangulation and aggravated domestic assault.
