Movie-goers apprehensive of theaters in wake of Louisiana shooting

SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

After yesterday’s tragedy in Louisiana, some people in mid-Michigan are hesitant to go to the movies.

David Demers admits he has some apprehension about going to the movies after three died and several others were injured.

"It did cross my mind about the possibility of something happening in the theater today," Demers said.

But that didn't appear to have an immediate impact on security here at the Crown Cinema at the Fashion Square shopping area in Saginaw where it appeared that it was business as usual.

Demers, who is a license gun owner, is rethinking Michigan’s laws regarding openly carrying weapons in movie theaters.

"I do believe like most gun owners do across the country that we could have some more controls for access to guns and just more back ground checks,” Demers said. “That might be able to reduce the potential of a gun landing in the hands of an individual who has some mental problems."
