GRATIOT COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

The body of a 15-year-old boy has been recovered after he drowned in a Mid-Michigan lake.

The Gratiot County Sheriff’s Department was called to Reed Park in North Star Township at around 6:19 p.m. on July 26.

Investigators report that 15-year-old Shawn Schultz of Bannister was swimming in the park when he began having problems. His friend tried to help him, but was unable to.

The Isabella County Dive Team was called in, and worked until dark trying to locate the boy, but his body wasn’t recovered until around 7:00 a.m. on July 27 in about 12 feet of water.

Schultz's family created a GoFundMe page to cover $2,500 of the funeral costs.
