Police ID victims in double fatal crash

MIDLAND COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Two people are dead after they were involved in a fatal accident Tuesday night.

The accident happened about 8:45 p.m. in Midland County’s Lee Township at the end of S. Nine Mile.

Daniel Hill, 30, of Mt. Pleasant and Mark Goltowski, 53, of Shepherd, died as a result of the crash, police said.

Hill was traveling northbound in a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer when he failed to stop at the end of the road. He drove over a street sign, through some heavy brush and landed upside down in the Chippewa River, police said.

The river was about two and a half feet deep where the car landed.

Hill and Goltowski were pronounced dead at the scene.

Speed appears to be a factor in the crash, but police are waiting on toxicology reports to determine if drugs or alcohol were also involved.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Midland County’s Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Lee and Homer Township fire departments, Mid-Michigan Health EMS, and a conservation officer from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
