Wildfire danger on the rise for much of MI

SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources reports that many parts of the state are seeing “high” to “very high” fire danger conditions.

Due to recent warm temperatures and lack of rain, the DNR says conditions are expected to remain for the next few days and into the weekend.

“According to the National Weather Service there are chances for rain in the forecast, but amounts will be limited and scattered in the areas that see precipitation,” said Dan Laux. “Many areas of the state are starting to see elevated drought conditions.”

Small amounts of rainfall are expected, but according to DNR fire prevention specialist Dan Laux it won’t be enough to have an impact on the dry conditions.

The DNR says fire activity has picked up over the past few days and more wildfires have been reported.
