9-year-old girl set up lemonade stand, donates money to family in need

Posted: Updated:

Samantha Stricker is like most 9-year-olds. She likes playing with her barbies, and her bedroom is fit for a princess.

"You should give help if people need it," Stricker said.

But it's what she did this week that sets her apart.

"I set up a lemonade stand. I wanted to help somebody that needed the money more than I did," Stricker said.

But the proceeds from the stand aren't for her.

There's someone specifically she wanted to help with them: our nation's men and women in uniform.

"They really fight for our country. They risk their lives for us. And they really need our help too," Stricker said.

And that's when Samantha saw our recent story on TV5, about veteran Cameron Corder.

After being injured in Afghanistan, Corder has been barely making ends meet, waiting for military benefits to kick in.

"My mom was looking online to see what military things I could give to, and we found this family, and I wanted to give it to them," Stricker said.

It was here in this driveway in Saginaw Township where the lemonade stand was, and now the proceeds from it are going to go to a good cause.

TV5 was able to connect Samantha and her mom with the Corder family, to give the donation.

Stricker has this advice for her peers.

"It's really nice to give, rather than receive," Stricker said.
