July 30 marks 40th anniversary of Hoffa's disappearance

Posted: Updated:

Jimmy Hoffa, the well-known Teamsters boss, went missing on July 30, 1975.

Hoffa was last seen outside of a restaurant in Oakland County. He was supposed to meet with another Teamsters boss from New Jersey and a Detroit mafia captain.

Several tips have arose since Hoffa’s disappearance that resulted in exploratory digs to find his remains. All of the digs have left investigators empty handed.

A former Mafia captain who was in prison during Hoffa’s disappearance previously told WDIV Hoffa was buried in suburban Detroit.

Those claims never resulted in a discovery.

Since then there have been several digs searching for Hoffa’s remains, even some in Mid-Michigan.

Hoffa was 62 when he vanished 40 years ago. He was declared legally dead in 1982.
