SANILAC COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A 32-year-old man is dead after he was involved in a vehicle accident.

The Croswell man was driving a Jeep Liberty on S. Sandusky Road near Marlette Road in Sanilac County’s Elk Township when he ran off the roadway and crashed into some trees, police said.

The accident happened shortly after midnight on Thursday.

The driver was the only occupant in the vehicle, police said.

He suffered severe injuries and was transported to McKenzie Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Department and Sandusky Police Department responded to the scene. They were assisted by the Elk Township Fire Department, Croswell Police Department and Michigan State Police.
