Historic boat gets new home

Posted: Updated:

It's a piece of Bay City history.

Don Morin is vice president of Saginaw River Marine Historical Society - the group who owns the boat, named Amycita.

"Amycita ought to go home," Morin said.

It's been stored for free at Skipper Bud's Marina for some time, but now it will have a permanent home for all to enjoy.

Traffic was tied up today on parts of Bay City roads as the boat made its way down to the antique toy and firetruck museum.

Marvin Cooper with Village Towing is the one pulling that boat. He's doing the job at no cost to the historical society.

"They asked me if I would be able to move a historical boat for them. And I figured I'd donate my time to make sure someone in the generation after me would be able to see the history of Bay City," Cooper said.

But why is the boat so important?

Morin said it's a one of a kind and they don't want to see it destroyed.

"It's about community coming together to realize how we'll save history and put everything on display for the public," Morin said.

So while Amycita had the same owner for nearly a century, its new home will make sure all can some see her glory for the decades to come.
