Veterans receives CDL after story gets media attention

GRATIOT COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Blaine Sullivan is breathing a sigh of relief tonight.

"After almost a year of getting jerked around, I'm really happy," Sullivan said.

His struggle to get a waiver for his commercial license skills test is over.

"I got a phone call from the main office of the secretary of state. They wanted a copy of my waiver, so I emailed it to them,” Sullivan said. “She called me back, and said they didn't see a problem why I was ever denied in the first place."

TV5 asked the tough questions, and got results.

Despite having a license to operate heavy vehicles for the military and logging thousands of miles driving them in Kuwait, the veteran was not able to obtain the waiver, which would save him the money it would cost to take the test.

Today, we learned after our story, Sullivan was able to get his license.

In a statement, officials said, “...his waiver has been approved. He came in to an office yesterday afternoon to get his CDL so he should be all set now."

Sullivan said he's glad to finally be able to make a living for his family.

"I'd like to thank TV5 for doing the interview because I'm pretty sure that's what got the ball rolling," Sullivan said.
