Officials are warning about a potential scam along a construction route.

The Genesee County Water and Waste Services and Karegnondi Water Authority were made aware on Friday that an individual not associated with either organization has been soliciting money from residents.

An individual goes door-to-door providing false information to residents along the construction route. Reports said the individual tells local residents that driveway and other culverts removed during KWA construction would only be restored to a 15 foot maximum.

At that point, the individual offers to repair at a greater distance, for $60 per yard and then offers to have residents pay via credit card.

The Genesee County Drain Commissioner Jeff Wright released a press release and said that any culvert removed due to KWA construction will be restored to the same or greater distance at zero expense to residents.

No one affiliated with the project will go door-to-door soliciting money. Wright warns if anyone comes to your door, you are encouraged to call local authorities.

The reported incident was near Carpenter and Center roads in Genesee Township, but all residents along the KWA route should be aware.
