GENESEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Troy Paxton, the 17-year-old Flint native who died on Thursday after attempting to swim across Minnawanna Lake, was remembered by his peers on Friday.

A candlelight vigil was held at Richfield Bowl. Paxton was a member of the Kearsley High School bowling team.

Hundreds of people gathered to pay their respects to the teen who was described as a selfless kid who loved to help others.

His coach, Bart Rutlege, said he will be deeply missed.

“This is hard,” Rutlege said. “He was a good kid and I was really close to him. He meant a lot to this team.”

Paxton’s body was found a few hours after he went under.
