Walk for Hope aims to raise awareness & funds for mental health and suicide

MIDLAND, MI (WNEM) -

Hundreds are expected to attend the annual Walk for Hope: Depression and Suicide Awareness Event at Northwood University on Sunday, August 16.

The 5K Walk/Run will raise funds to be used in the Great Lakes Bay region to host events, training sessions and provide education to build awareness of mental health, suicide prevention, intervention and aftercare.

Registration for the event is free, however, prizes are available for every $100 raised.

The event will feature guest speakers, live music by Sonic Freeway, a DJ on the walk route, resource tables, activity tables, face painting, and food.

Every 12.8 minutes someone dies by suicide in the United States. According to the National Association of Mental Illnesses, approximately one in five adults in the United States will experience mental illness in a given year.
