Perani and Firebirds announce 5-year partnership

FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

On Thursday morning, the Flint Firebirds announced their new partnership with the Flint-based Perani’s Hockey World.

“This is a dream come true for Flint Hockey fans,” said Flint Mayor Dayne Walling.

The five-year partnership brings the Perani name back to the Flint team, with naming rights. That including uniforms, apparel and signs.

The late Bob Perani was a Draft A pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs 56 years ago. He was also a goal tender for the old Flint Generals for five seasons.

The Firebirds plan to honor him with a memorial. Team owner, Rolf Nilson said the move is special.

“They have a long history in town here and really, for them to be part of that and commit to us, it is really a big thing for us,” Nilson said.

The potential for a memorial almost brought Bob Perani’s son, Robert, to tears.

“Wow… Something like that would just be, just wow,” Robert Perani said. “Words can’t describe the feeling. I know I would be honored. My sister – our family would be incredibly honored. That would be the next step of a dream come true.”

The Perani name is an important part of the past and future for Flint hockey.
