Republican, Democrat lawmakers condemn Courser's alleged actions

LANSING, MI (WNEM) -

Bill Ballenger knows a thing or two about politics.  He's a former Republican legislator and a state capital commentator.  He's outraged by the scandal now surrounding State Representative Todd Courser.

"That is sick," Ballenger said.

The republican was elected to serve the people of Lapeer County. But Courser allegedly concocted a phony scandal email about himself to misdirect media attention away from his extramarital affair with a fellow lawmaker.

Excerpts from the email include allegations that Courser is a "bisexual porn addicted sex deviant," among other statements, some that we can't share on television.

"I mean for them to concoct something like this, they have made themselves look so bad," Ballenger said.

Republicans and Democrats alike are speaking out about this controversy, condemning the actions of Courser and some calling for his resignation, like Michigan House Democratic leader, Tim Greimel.

"There are some very serious allegations involved, allegations of a criminal nature. The taxpayers of this state owed a thorough investigation of this," Greimel said.

Greimel and Ballenger, who founded the Inside Michigan Politics website, appeared on The CBS Early Show on Tuesday. It's a local story now making national news.

"I haven't seen anything involving rank amateurs out of control like this one is," Ballenger said.

The state investigation into the scandal continues and it's unclear what will happen after the investigation wraps up.
