Volunteers turn out to build ramp for veteran

SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

A Vietnam veteran who recently had one leg amputated is getting a helping hand.

Aldolpho Juarez loves to spend time outside his Saginaw home. But after losing one leg and the rest of his toes about a year ago, getting out the door has been tough. "I tell my son take me outside so I can be outside awhile. It's really hard to be inside the house all day you know"

So today dozens of employees from Home Depot pitched in to build him a wheelchair ramp. Nearly 75 volunteers turned out to help with the ramp and other home repairs.

Home Depot District Community Affairs Director Judy Custer said it’s all about their commitment to helping veterans.

“They give so much to us and when you come across a veteran that's in this dire strait you think how does this happen? We got to help these people.”
