A BP refinery in Whiting, Indiana that had to be partially shut down for unexpected repairs is being blamed on the jump at the pump.

According to GasBuddy.com, the refinery had to shut a 240,000 barrel per day crude distillation unit down.

That’s caused prices to jump to around the $3 a gallon mark in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.

Here in Mid-Michigan we’re seeing prices jump at some stations to around the $2.99 mark for a gallon of regular unleaded.

If you see something lower, you may want to consider filling up.
