National Left-Hander's Day - WNEM TV 5

National Left-Hander's Day

Posted: Updated:

Southpaw’s rejoice, today is your day.

August 13 is observed annually as Left-Hander’s Day.

Approximately 10 percent of the population falls into the left-handed category, although scientists aren’t exactly sure why. They do say it is more probable that if you are left-handed, you had a left-handed parent.

Lefties face challenges in doing ordinary things because so many tools are created for the right-handed.

Famous lefties include Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey and President Obama.

International Left-Handers day was founded in 1992 in the United Kingdom. Because of the popularity of this observation in the United States, the Registrar at National Day Calendar has added it to its list of national days.

If today is your day, don’t be shy. Post a picture on Twitter using #lefthandersday to prove your left-handed awesomeness.
