Police: Papa John's Camaro stolen after car event is found

Posted: Updated:

Police say a Chevrolet Camaro used in promotions for pizza chain Papa John's has been found after it was among three vehicles stolen from around a Detroit-area event showcasing classic cars.

Officer Shanelle Williams says the vehicle was reported found Monday in Detroit. She says a truck and trailer were recovered Sunday.

Police have said the 1971 Camaro Z28 owned by the Louisville, Kentucky-based pizza company was reported missing Sunday morning from Detroit.

Papa John's spokesman Bob Kraut said the car earlier was displayed for the Woodward Dream Cruise on Saturday in suburban Detroit.

Founder John Schnatter sold the gold-and-black car decades ago to help his father's tavern in Indiana, leading to the start of what would become Papa John's. In 2009, after years of searching, Schnatter bought it back.
