Solider honored by friends, family, community

COLEMAN, MI (WNEM) -

Flanked by flags billowing in the wind, the Greater Midland Coleman Family Center was transformed into the headquarters for the celebration of a hero, PFC Robert Snear, who died Aug. 9 at Fort Hood, Texas.

The people holding the flags are the Patriot Guard, making sure this local soldier had a homecoming to remember.

"We are truly blessed to have such a man live and serve among us," said Chaplain Brian Martinus.

But the community welcome wasn’t the only way Coleman said goodbye to one of their own.

"We present to you this gold star banner for your sacrifice to this country," said Mary Fisher, Blue Star Mothers of Midland County.

At his funeral today, the Blue Star Mothers of Midland County presented the Midland County native's family with a special honor: a gold star.

"The blue star stands for hope and pride. And the gold star to the cause of liberty and freedom," Fisher said.

Snear wasn't just remembered for his military service.

His close friends spoke about how they view him, as family.

And the local soldier will be buried right here at Warren Township Cemetery for all to remember him.
