$5,000 reward offered for information in case of dog thrown from car, left to die

Police found a pit bull mix along the side of the road in Frankenmuth Township, left for dead.

“He was very malnourished, very dehydrated,” said Leigh Nacy, Animal Control. “He couldn't even stand. Although he was trying to get up, he wasn't even strong enough to hold himself up.”

Police said the puppy was thrown from a moving vehicle.

Things are looking up for the pup with a brand new outlook and a brand new name.

This is Lucky.

“Cause he was lucky that we found him. Otherwise I don't know what would of happened to him. I'm glad we found him,” Nacy said.

When he was found last week, he was just 15 pounds. Today lucky is slowly regaining his strength and his appetite.

“They have him on IVs,” Nacy said. “They are feeding him every three hours to keep his vitals up. They are making sure that he is healthy. He is gaining more strength. He can walk now. And they are making sure he stays healthy.”

Police are still working to find who is responsible for this horrific crime.

As far as Lucky goes, adoption may be in his future

“It’s a long road to recovery, but hopefully he'll go to a rescue or something that can care for him and give him the medical care that he needs once he's available,” Nacy said. “Right now he is doing very well and is making a lot of progress.”

The Frankenmuth Police Department said Lucky is eating well and the IV has been taken out. He still has saline wraps on his feet for sores and they are changed every day, police said.

The Humane Society of the United States is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case.
