Training exercise damages abandoned school

Posted: Updated:
FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Back in June the Army used an abandoned school in Flint for a training exercise.

Before the training, the school had been boarded up so it was less dangerous to the community. But now gaping holes caused by explosives have opened it back up again, and the community wants answers.

"If they're not going to tear the building down I think they still should keep it maintained," said Trechelle Moore, a Flint resident.

The big question is if the army trained here and caused this abandoned building to be a bigger eye sore, should they also be responsible for fixing it?

Flint Police said the military training was coordinated between the National Guard and Flint schools.

Despite repeated efforts by TV5, neither the National Guard nor Flint schools were available for comment.
