An 18-year-old man was rescued after his kayak overturned in a Mid-Michigan harbor.

The incident happened about 6:45 p.m. Aug. 19 near the Port Sanilac Harbor.

A man was fishing with his family on the north break wall of the harbor when he saw an overturned kayaker with a person holding on, according to the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office.

The man then called 911 for help.

The kayaker was about a quarter mile east of the harbor, police said.

The Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol responded to the call and rescued the 18-year-old from the water.

The Warren man told police he was in the water for 15 minutes after his kayak overturned, police said. He was wearing a life jacket and was not injured during the incident.

The man was transported to the harbor and later transported to a nearby campground where he was vacationing with family, police said.
