SVSU ranked best in the state for housing

SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Saginaw Valley State University's dorm rooms were recently ranked the best in the state and number 26 in the nation by Niche.com.

Mark Maliskey, a resident assistant at SVSU said he's not surprised that his school's dorms were voted number one in Michigan.

“That was one of the biggest reasons why I chose to go to SVSU – their housing is phenomenal. I went to universities in the area but none of them compared to this,” Maliskey said.

Maliskey's dorm, like most on campus, has a private kitchen inside the room. Which is something you don't see too often in college residence halls, according to SVSU spokesman, J.J. Boehm.

“They can cook their own food in their room they don’t have to go to a common room or have the food our in the open they can actually feel like adults,” Boehm said.

Boehm said most of score from the ranking and review site is based on how satisfied students are with their housing.

“Our rooms are very spacious and very modern have a lot of convenience,” Boehm said. “But I think the number one thing the students appreciate is the type of environment we have. We try to make it very friendly. I think that's what makes them feel so good about their residential experience.”

The halls are quiet here now. But by the end of the month they'll be filled with hundreds of students and the staff here at SVSU wants to make them all feel at home.
