SANILAC COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A disabled 8-year-old boy was found safe after missing for two hours.

The boy ran away from his residence on the 700 block of Loree Road in Sanilac County’s Washington Township about noon on Aug. 23.

The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and called for additional help in the search.

The Carsonville Fire Department located the child in a wooded area about two hours after he went missing, the sheriff’s office said.

The child was in a ditch about a half mile east of his home. He was covered in mud, but was not injured, police said.

He was transported to Port Huron McLaren Hospital for treatment.

The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Sanilac County Search and Rescue, Carsonville Fire Department, Port Sanilac Fire Department, Sanilac County Sheriff’s Aero Unit, St. Clair County Sheriff’s K-9 unit and neighbors.
