LUDINGTON, MI (AP) -

Authorities say a man intentionally jumped from a freighter in Lake Michigan near Ludington in western Michigan.

The Muskegon Chronicle reports Monday that crew members saw the man go overboard early Sunday morning from the Stewart J. Cort near Big Sable Point in Mason County.

The U.S. Coast Guard says in a release that "crew members witnessed the man climb over the rail and jump from the vessel."

Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole says more than 20 people were on the freighter.

The man's name has not been released and he has not been found.

A search started Sunday by the Coast Guard has been suspended indefinitely. It was cut short Sunday afternoon due to rough weather on the lake.
