Lost dog found after more than 60 days of searching

BAY COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A Bay County woman never gave up hope in finding her.

It was dedication, and maybe an old trick of the trade, that brought a dog home safe.

Angela Michels said she’s been on a monumental task.

"I realized it was going to take one person, or a couple of people, to win this dog over, and I decided that person was going to be me because I live so close and I'm able to do it," Michels said.

Michels has been on the search for a mini-labradoodle named Baby Girl.

"It's been 63 days of tracking her," Michels said.

On June 20, David Mills, 57, lost control of his truck on Interstate and rolled over into a cornfield.

Mills had three labradoodles as passengers in his truck. Two were found alive, but Baby Girl remained missing.

Michels never gave up on finding her, leaving her food and spotting her on a trail camera on four separate occasions.

But on Aug. 22, Michels luck changed.

"I had put some KFC in the trap, and apparently nobody can resist the Colonel's secret recipe," Michels said.

Apparently, the missing piece all along was juicy chicken. Michels gave Baby Girl a bath and returned the dog home to her family.

"I felt for the family, I thought they were really good people and needed a hand," Michels said.

Michels said Baby Girl was very happy to be back with her family, including the other two dogs involved in the crash.

The driver of the vehicle continues to recover from a broken neck.
