Gas prices could drop across Michigan

MID-MICHIGAN (WNEM) -

GasBuddy is expecting gas prices to drop across the Midwest.

The oil refinery in Whiting, Indiana that experienced an outage earlier this month has been restarted, according to BP.

After the refinery had to be shut down for repairs, gas prices in Michigan jumped to about $3 a gallon.

Now GasBuddy is expecting gas prices to go back down since the refinery is up and running as normal. Gas prices could drop 20 to 50 cents over the next two weeks, said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.

“As gas stations buy cheaper gasoline, they will pass savings along to motorists, but they will also attempt to recoup margin losses sustained from the unprecedented spike in wholesale prices that occurred two weeks ago,” DeHaan said.
