Atwood Stadium sees significant improvements

FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Kettering University led the charge to creating a new Atwood Stadium.

"Kettering raised its hand and said 'yes, we'd like to take this venue back to its prominence it once was,'" said Jack Stock, director of external relations from Kettering.

It was once a place where excitement filled the seats and local athletes gave it their all on the field of Atwood Stadium.

"We are very proud of the fact that we made improvements throughout the stadium," Stock said.

The improvements include new concessions, new bathrooms and installing a brand new $1.75 million turf.

"It has 11,000 seats, it has a brand new field turf that has artificial surface that is the same as in the Ford Field and the UM Stadium," Stock said.

Beecher will take on Flint Northwestern on the new turf on Aug. 27.

"They can come be a part of this great facility, feel good about themselves, feel good about the community and have a great venue to compete or see a concert," Stock said.

Events start at 3 p.m. with an open house, food trucks, and a parade.
