Flint officials say they are trying to contain a water-main break -- the latest in a string of significant ruptures during the past few weeks.
Officials said Tuesday the work on the 24-inch main could cause water discoloration on the city's east side but should clear up after faucets run for a few moments. Crews warn repairs could take longer than usual as they assess the extent of the break.
The city says in a statement that numerous, recent water main breaks have "strained" crews as they make necessary improvements to the aging, troubled water system.
Flint officials say water from the Flint River is safe, despite complaints about smell, taste and appearance. The city cut ties last year with Detroit's system and is building a pipeline to Lake Huron.
