Teen in custody after being taken out of state by older man

SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A 16-year-old girl is safe in police custody after leaving the state with a 38-year-old man.

Bridgeport Township police were called to a home at 1:25 a.m. after reports the teen had run away.

Officer Tyler Poirier investigated, and found that the teen was in contact with a 38-year-old man from Virginia Beach, VA. Officer Poirier then discovered the man had left Virginia and come to Bridgeport to pick up the teen at around 11:30 p.m. on August 25.

Maryland State Police were called, and were able to stop the suspect’s vehicle as it entered the state. The suspect was taken into custody, and the teen appeared to be unharmed.

Currently arrangements are being made to get the girl home.

The incident is still under investigation.

No names have been released.
