MACKINAW CITY, MI (WNEM) -

The annual Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk is just around the corner.

Event organizers are expecting more than 40,000 walkers to participate in the 5-mile walk across the bridge.

Gov. Rick Snyder will lead the walk. It starts at 7 a.m. on Sept. 7.

Walkers can start the 5-mile trek up until 11 a.m.

There are also buses available to take walkers from Mackinaw City to St. Ignace for $5.

The Michigan State Police will search purses, bags, and backpacks before walkers are allowed to start, the Michigan Department of Transportation said.

"This process has been quick and easy, and submitting your bag for a quick search or leaving it in your vehicle will help ensure the walk is safe and enjoyable for all participants," said MBA Executive Secretary Bob Sweeney.

Participants are encouraged to share their photos and videos on MDOT’s Facebook page. One participant will be chosen to receive a once-in-a-lifetime tour of the top of the Mackinac Bridge.

Participants can also submit their memories by using #MightyMacWalk15
