FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

A long off-season of hard work led to this for both the Beecher Bucs and Flint Northwestern Wildcats. But it's been an even bigger task to make Atwood Stadium look so good.

"When I walked in here, I said man I wish I could have played on something like this, I love this!" said Frank Williams, a Northwestern graduate.

Kettering University and the group that never gave up – the Friends of Atwood Stadium – watched people in awe over the $2 million facelift.

"I thought it was just going to be a historical landmark, with nothing going on here, I'm glad what they did here, they saved a lot of memories here," Williams said.

And the facelift made it possible for new memories to be made.

"We played back when it was carpet, when we walked out out of here, we had turf burns, but now, they have excellent turf, so I think it's a great benefit for the kids," said Jason Taylor, a Beecher graduate.

A benefit, Flintstone Mateen Cleaves said, is invaluable.

"This is prime time. This is what it's all about. When kids come out here, and they see this, they're going to play better," Cleaves said.
