SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI (AP/WNEM) -

A stretch of Interstate 75 north of Detroit has been closed after an accident that injured a Michigan State Police trooper on motorcycle patrol.

The state police said in a release that Trooper Chad Wolf, a 6-year veteran, was struck by a vehicle Friday morning while working in northern Oakland County's Springfield Township. Investigators say a driver pulling a trailer made a lane change and hit Wolf. The trooper was dragged for several miles before the driver pulled over at a rest stop.

Michigan State Police said in a press release that Wolf died at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc Township.

Authorities say the driver of the vehicle, a 72-year old man from Waterford, has been cooperating with investigators.

Wolf was a husband and father of four. He joined the state police in 2008 and has served posts in the Jackson, Flint and Detroit areas.

MSP is asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident on Friday morning to contact MSP at 1-855-MICH-TIP.

Northbound  I-75 at Dixie Highway re-opened shortly before 5:30 p.m.
