Team forced to forfeit win over ineligible player

BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

What’s described as simple human error has forced a Mid-Michigan football team to forfeit a win.

On Aug. 27, Bay City Central defeated Swartz Creek 21-20.

Bay City Central Principal Tim Marciniak said that after the game was played the school learned that part of the school transfer paperwork for one of the players had not been submitted to the Michigan High School Athletic Association on time.

Marciniak said that while one form was given to the MHSAA in the correct time frame, one was not.

On Aug. 31 the school self-reported this to the MHSAA.

The next day, the MHSAA ruled that Bay City Central had to forfeit that win because an ineligible player was used in the game.

It's believed the player will be ineligible for this week's game as well.
