IOSCO COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Several Michigan Department of Natural Resources officers aided in the effort to capture an escaped prisoner.

The prisoner escaped on Aug. 29 from law enforcement in Reno Township near Whittemore, the DNR said. That’s in Iosco County.

The prisoner received medical treatment at the West Branch Regional Medical Center and was being transported back to the Iosco County Jail when he escaped, the DNR said.

The DNR officers assisted several law enforcement agencies including the Michigan State Police and officers from Iosco, Ogemaw, and Alcona sheriff’s departments.

After two hours after the escape the DNR officers apprehended the prisoner in a large forested area, the DNR said.

The 10 officers were from Iosco, Ogemaw, Alcona, Oscoda and Gladwin counties.

"The conservation officers were very familiar with the forest topography and features of the area, which greatly assisted in quick apprehension of the prisoner," said DNR Sgt. Brandon Kieft.
