Woman dies after falling overboard in Wild Fowl Bay

Posted: Updated:

Huron County Central Dispatch got a call at 6:00 p.m. Monday from a man who said his wife had fallen overboard.

Investigators say the couple, Kurt and Sarah Utich from Sterling Heights, were on their 23’ pontoon boat when they tried to navigate around some debris.

Huron County Sheriff’s Deputies believe Mr. Utich he was in neutral gear when his wife tried to get the debris with a net. She fell in, and wasn’t wearing a life jacket.

Mr. Utich told investigators she re-surfaced nearly ten minutes later and was unresponsive.

While waiting for help, Mr. Utich set off a flare to get the attention of nearby boaters. They helped get the 60-year-old woman onboard and began CPR.

Unfortunately she was pronounced dead.

The investigation continues.
