Tornado confirmed by radar in Ogemaw County

Posted: Updated:

Severe thunderstorms have rolled through Mid-Michigan this afternoon at 3:58 p.m. with part of the line producing a tornado warning in Ogemaw County. The National Weather Service office in Gaylord issued the warning.

The tornado was confirmed via Doppler radar and storm damage observed was consistent with the area of concern on radar. The National Weather Service has a damage survey scheduled for Wednesday. The site of the damage was on Thayer Road, two miles ENE of the Rifle River State Recreation Area.

As of 7:00 PM, there are currently no other warnings issued. While things have calmed down slightly there are still thunderstorms in the area and a few warnings are possible.

System bringing the storms has finally begun to move to the east. We will see some rain through Wednesday afternoon before calmer weather returns for the second half of our week.

We'll have forecast updates at 7 and 10 PM on MY5 and at 11 PM on TV 5.
