Monster pothole claims several vehicles

SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

When MDOT crews filled a huge pothole Wednesday morning they were a little late. The mini-sinkhole had already claimed several vehicles from Tuesday night to the time they showed up.

One of the drivers was Kenyetta Miles. The Saginaw native was driving home from work when she slammed into the hole around 11 p.m. She arrived after crews had tossed asphalt into the chasm.

Miles’ car had two bent rims and she just spent $2,000 on a set of four.

She wasn't alone.

Besides the two cars TV5 found Wednesday morning, she said there were three other vehicles that took a pounding hard enough to force them off the road, near the Zilwaukee Bridge on the highway between Saginaw and Bay City in the southbound lane. She said tow truck drivers were busy Tuesday night.

For the victims of this pothole, well, they'd like the legislature to hurry and take care of potholes like this.

"They need to do better with these highways, you know, this just isn't right. We pay taxes so what are you doing with the tax money other than sitting down there playing games," Miles said.

Miles hopes her car insurance will pick up the tab for the damage.  She's not counting on any help from any governmental agencies.

"The city want me to pay them, they don't want to pay me," Miles said.
