LANSING, MI (WNEM) -

A special election has been scheduled to fill the vacant seats left by former Reps. Todd Courser and Cindy Gamrat.

Lt. Gov. Brian Calley announced a primary election will be held on Nov. 3 and the general election will be held on March 8, 2016.

“This determination ensures we can put this troubling situation behind us and continue our focus on moving Michigan forward and the issues that make a positive difference for all residents,” Calley said.  “It’s imperative that everyone is represented and their voices are heard in Lansing as quickly as possible. By adding this question to the ballot on existing election dates, costs will be minimized to local governments, and voters will have ample time to research candidates and make the best decision as to who will next represent them.”

Candidates who wish to be placed on the Nov. 3 primary ballot must file by Friday Sept. 18 at 4 p.m.
