Shooting in Bay City concerns neighbors

BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

Gun violence in a neighborhood has residents concerned about neighborhood’s future.

"It was scary. It's not something you see every day," said one neighbor.

Police say a 24-year-old man was shot in the back. It all happened at the 200 block of North Farragut Street in Bay City.

"We moved from California to get away from this kind of stuff. And now it's right across the street," she said.

Other residents said this neighborhood has really declined recently.

Jim Metevia has lived in the area for 16 years. He blames the uptick in crime on a few folks who have just moved in.

"It's been about a year since they moved in. And that's how it's been going downhill," Metevia said.

Metevia believes they've brought a criminal element with them.

"These younger generation comes in here. They start screwing up and that and they think they own the block here. That's not going to happen here," Metevia said.

Authorities said the shooting victim will survive.

But one neighbor said the shooting is an indication she needs to move on. She said the newer residents are forcing her out.

"Brings in a lot of traffic, unwanted kind of traffic. People in and out all night," she said. "Stuff going on there that we know is not legal. And it's just not a good place to be."
