Unexpected discovery brings missing 70-year-old woman home

BRIDGEPORT TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

Caroline Desormeau had no idea what was on the other side of the door, while doing maintenance on this vacant mobile home.

"I found her standing there in the kitchen," Desormeau said.

Mary Ann Doyle, 70, stood in the kitchen after vanishing from her Bridgeport home on Sunday evening.

After five days, many feared the worse.

"It was quite shocking to you know see somebody standing in there," Desormeau said.

Authorities believe she walked from Kansas Avenue to a mobile home park, a little more than a mile away.

Co-worker Dennis Tierney was with Desormeau when she discovered Doyle. He said Doyle was disoriented and had no idea where she was or why she was there.

"We went in and talked to her for a minute and she said she was hungry," Tierney said.

That's when Tierney called his boss.

"She came back, spoke to the woman and got her information," Tierney said.

At first the maintenance workers didn't know who they had found. But after talking to their manager, Tami Lovelady, everything came together.

"She told me her name and right away we just all looked at each other and was like, oh wait, no, you are missing!" Lovelady said.

Lovelady said she had seen TV5 reports on Doyle over the last few days. Knowing a family was desperately searching for their loved one, she called 911 right away.

"It's very emotional you know to find her, and alive, and well," Lovelady said.

Shortly after 10 Thursday morning, Doyle and her family were reunited. A happy ending to this missing woman's story.

"They were tearful. They were very happy. Thank you. It was a lot of emotion," Tierney said.

And it all happened as a stroke of luck. It turns out, Desormeau was supported to work at a different mobile home today. There are more than 400 on the property.

But she said something brought her here. And now she is forever grateful, and said this a day she'll never forget.

"We're very lucky that we came to this house this day and was able to return her to her family," Desormeau said.

Doyle was taken to Covenant Hospital as a precaution.
