Dog missing for 38 days, returned home by mysterious stranger

Robert Bradley and his dog, Captain, are together again, thanks to the kindness of a complete stranger.

"He just dropped out of the sky, out of heaven. He came for a reason," Bradley said.

Captain, a Finnish Spitz, wandered off last month.

Bradley and his family did everything they could to find their precious pooch, but nothing panned out.

"We had him on Facebook, had all the kennels watching for him. Nothing. That's why we thought something really tragic had happened," Bradley said.

After 38 days went by with no sign of captain, Bradley began to think he'd never see his dog again.

Then, on Sunday, out of the blue, a fisherman, still wearing his waders, showed up at Bradley's house in Freeland.

"He walks up the driveway and says you missing a reddish-brown dog... Well yeah we are missing a reddish brown dog!" Bradley said.

The fisherman led Bradley through a wooded area, about three acres from his house to the banks along the Tittabawassee River.

The mysterious fisherman brought Bradley to a hole. When Bradley peered inside, he knew his prayers had been answered.

"It really is a miracle. It is God's answer, it is God's doing. For him to survive that long with nothing, that's destiny," Bradley said.

He said Captain was scared, a bit dazed and confused. He stayed just out of their reach.

Bradley and the fisherman went back to the house, thinking some food would help coax captain out of the hole.

It worked.

But Bradley and his family never got a chance to show their appreciation to the fisherman turned dog rescuer.

He slipped away, without saying a word.

"We want to thank him the right way. We really want to lay hands on him and just thank him the right way," Bradley said.
