'Rolling meth lab' cause of previous road closure

KOCHVILLE TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

A routine traffic stop led to a complete road closure after deputies suspected the vehicle was a rolling meth lab.

Police investigated a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot on Bay Road just before 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Police said the driver had a warrant out for his arrest, and took the man into custody.

Saginaw County Sheriff Bill Federspiel said a female passenger alerted deputies to something in the vehicle.

"Deputy was talking to female passenger who said she wasn’t feeling well and referenced it could be because of something in the vehicle.  Deputies opened trunk, and they believe there is a ‘rolling meth lab’ in the trunk," Federspiel said.

Businesses in the area were evacuated as a precaution. Bay Road, from Kochville to Pierce Roads was re-opened before 10:30 p.m.

However, Federspiel said the situation is under control. Hazmat crews are on their way to take control of the area and transport the chemicals safely with special equipment.
