Attorney general reaches settlement in phony solicitations

LANSING, Mich. (AP) -

Authorities say a company accused of sending forms designed to look like documents required by the state of Michigan will face restrictions on conducting future business in the state.

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette on Friday announced a settlement with the company, called Division of Corporate Services Inc. Under the agreement, Schuette says the company must reimburse $150 to each of the 105 Michigan entities that paid up.

Schuette says a nonprofit brought the forms to his office's attention. He urges others to file complaints with his office if needed.

Recipients were asked to complete and return the form with payment to a Lansing address. Schuette says it's a scam and similar mailings have taken place in other states under the company name Annual Business Services.
